India's steam coal imports for 12-18 May marginally decline to 4.57 Mt

From May 12th to May 18th, India imported a total of 4,576,196 tonnes of steam coal from various countries. Indonesia was the largest exporter of coal to India, contributing 3,172,276 tonnes. This constitutes approximately 69.32% of the total coal imports.

Indonesia's significant share highlights its crucial role as a primary supplier in the Indian coal market, providing a substantial portion of the coal needed for India's energy requirements.

South Africa was the second-largest contributor, supplying 528,028 units of coal, which accounts for around 11.53% of the total imports.

The United States followed with 406,813 units, making up about 8.89% of the total imports.

For the week of 5th to 11 May, India’s steam coal import was 4,594,933 metric tonnes.
